HOMILY FOR TRINITY SUNDAY, YEAR C
Believe and Live the Mystery of the Trinity

Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, a mystery that is not just theological but deeply practical.
Jesus revealed to us not only the identity of God but also his life within.
1. The Blessed Trinity is not only a mystery about the identity of God. It is, in a special way, the mystery of his merciful love for the world and for each one of us.
Jesus revealed to us the identity of God: He revealed that there are Three Persons in One God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—who
Our readings today highlight the life of communion and interconnectedness of the Trinity.
- In Proverbs 8:22-31, Wisdom rejoices in creation, pointing to Christ, the Word through whom all things were made.
- Romans 5:1-5 reminds us that through Christ, we have peace with God, and the Holy Spirit, the love of God, is poured into our hearts.
- In John 16:12-15, Jesus assures His disciples that the Spirit will guide them to the truth, taking what belongs to the Father and making it known.
2. The Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—reveals a model of unity, love, and relationship.
Jesus also revealed to us the loving relationship in the intratrinitarian life. The Father loves the Son and the Son loves the Father. The fruit of this mutual love is the Holy Spirit, who is another Person.
The Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—reveals a life of unity, love, and relationship.
- God is a family united in love and self-giving and this is what we are called to reflect in our daily lives. We see hence that the Trinity is not just a doctrine—it is a way of life.
- The question is, how can we live out this mystery? We can live this mystery with the following:
2.1. Unity in Relationships
- Just as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are perfectly united, we are called to foster unity in our families, workplaces, and communities. This means practicing forgiveness, listening with empathy, and working toward reconciliation.
2.2. Love in Action: The Trinity is a communion of love.
- We reflect this love when we serve others selflessly, whether through acts of kindness, charity, or simply being present for those in need. His love continues to carry out the work of our salvation and sanctification.
- Saint Teresa of Calcutta one day found an old woman on the street, covered in sores, so she began to clean her. At one point the old woman asked, “Why are you doing this? People don’t do things like this. Who taught you this?” Saint Teresa replied: “My God taught me.” The woman replied: “Who is this God?” And Teresa of Calcutta said with simplicity: “You already know my God. My God is called Love.”
- Pope Francis wrote: “the Most Holy Trinity is not so much a theological exercise, but a revolution in our way of life. God, in each Person lives for the other in a continual relationship, in continual rapport, not for himself, provokes us to live with others and for others. Open. Today we can ask ourselves if our life reflects the God we believe in: do I, who profess faith in God the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, truly believe that I need others in order to live, I need to give myself to others, I need to serve others? Do I affirm this in words or do I affirm it with my life?” Angelus, 12 June 2022.
2.3. Personal relationship with God: Prayer and Spiritual Growth
- The communion which exists in the life of the Holy Trinity invites us live a deeper communion and loving relationship with each of the Persons in the Most Holy Trinity. How?
- We can strengthen our relationship with the Father through prayer, with the Son through Scripture and the Eucharist, and with the Holy Spirit by seeking guidance in our daily decisions.
2.4. Living our Principal Mission: Adoration

- The Trinity teaches us that each Person has a distinct role yet works in harmony. Likewise, we are called to embrace our unique gifts and use them for the good of others, whether in our careers, ministries, or personal lives.
- All this is summed up in one word: ADORATION, the principal mission of our life. We are all called to worship, love, respect, and glorify the Most Holy Trinity, the Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—with our life: in all our thoughts, feelings, words, and actions.
Dear brethren in Christ, every time we make the Sign of the Cross, we affirm our belief in the Trinity. Let us not only profess this mystery but live it—through unity, love, prayer, and adoration.
We ask Mary, Daughter, Mother and Spouse of God, to teach us to enter into the Trinitarian communion, in order to experience and bear witness to the love that gives meaning to our lives.
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen.
