JANUARY 1: BLESSED ARE YOU THEOTOKOS (Mother of God)! A letter from St. Athanasius.
The Word took our nature from Mary
Even when the Word takes a body from Mary, the Trinity remains a Trinity, with neither increase nor decrease. It is for ever perfect. In the Trinity we acknowledge one Godhead, and thus one God, the Father of the Word, is proclaimed in the Church.
℟. I know not how to praise you, holy and immaculate Virgin.* Heaven itself cannot contain the One whom you bore in your womb.
℣. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.* Heaven itself cannot contain the One whom you bore in your womb.
Let us pray.
O God, who in your kindness begin all good things and bring them to fulfillment, grant to us who find joy in the Solemnity of the holy Mother of God, that, just as we glory in the beginnings of your grace, so one day we may rejoice in its completion. Through Christ our Lord.
