“MACARENA. GUAPA!”
SEVILLE HOLY WEEK MADRUGÁ AV
Before entering the Minor Basilica of Macarena, and after more than 12 hours of procession which started at midnight between Maundy Thursday and Good Friday (“madrugada” means early morning), people literally swarmed the streets of Barrio Macarena to witness the return of Our Lady of Esperanza de Macarena, exclaiming words of affection, “Macareeena, guapa!!!”, the latter word meaning, beautiful. Truly a great show of love for Our Lady, characteristic of Spaniards, much more in particular, of Sevillians. Turn on sound for better viewing experience.
