ST. AUGUSTINE ON AUTHENTIC HAPPINESS AND WORLDLY JOY.

3rd Sunday of Advent C. Rejoice in the Lord and not in wordly things

ST. AUGUSTINE ON AUTHENTIC HAPPINESS AND WORLDLY JOY.

“What is it to rejoice in the ‘world’? It is to find delight in evil, in foolishness, in dishonorable and distorted things. In all these things the ‘world’ finds its joy …
So, brethren, rejoice in the Lord [Philippians 4:4], not in the world. That is, rejoice in the truth, not in wickedness; rejoice in the hope of eternity, not in the fading flower of vanity. That is the way to rejoice. Wherever you are on earth, however long you remain on earth, the Lord is near, do not be anxious about anything .”” (St. Augustine, Sermon 171, 4-5).

LORD, MAY WE BE DETACHED FROM THE WORLDLY PLEASURES AND MAY WE SEEK, FIND, AND PUT OUR COMPLETE JOY IN YOU!
