PLENARY INDULGENCES FOR FAMILY CONSECRATION TO THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS OR TO THE HOLY FAMILY.
Have you already consecrated your family to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus or to the Holy Family of Nazareth yet? If not, I encourage you to do so for it has indulgences both plenary and partial attached to it for all the family members.
The Manual of Indulgences (4th ed. USCCB 2006 English translation), Grant no. 1 states:
“1. ACT OF FAMILY CONSECRATION
A plenary indulgence is granted to the members of the family on the day on which it is first consecrated, if at all possible by a priest or deacon, to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus or to the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, if they devoutly recite the duly approved prayer before an image of the Sacred Heart or the Holy Family; on the anniversary of the consecration, the indulgence will be partial“ (underlining mine).
Below you have the duly approved prayers of family consecration to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and to the Holy Family.
Act of Consecration of the Family
to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Approved by Pope St. Pius X on May 19, 1908.
It is recited kneeling by both the priest and the family.
If a priest is not present, it is led by the head of the household.
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, Who didst make known to St. Margaret Mary Thine ardent desire to reign over Christian families, behold us assembled here today to proclaim Thine absolute dominion over our home.
Henceforth we purpose to lead a life like unto Thine, so that amongst us may flourish the virtues for which Thou didst promise peace on earth, and for this end we will banish from our midst the spirit of the world which Thou dost abhor so much.
Thou wilt reign over our understanding by the simplicity of our faith. Thou wilt reign over our hearts by an ardent love for Thee; and may the flame of this love be ever kept burning in our hearts by the frequent reception of the Holy Eucharist.
Deign, O Divine Heart, to preside over our meetings, to bless our undertakings, both spiritual and temporal, to banish all worry and care, to sanctify our joys, and soothe our sorrows. If any of us should ever have the misfortune to grieve Thy Sacred Heart, remind him of Thy goodness and mercy towards the repentant sinner.
Lastly, when the hour of separation will sound, and death will plunge our home into mourning, then shall we all, and every one of us, be resigned to Thy eternal decrees, and seek consolation in the thought that we shall one day be reunited in Heaven, where we shall sing the praises and blessings of Thy Sacred Heart for all eternity.
May the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and the glorious Patriarch St. Joseph, offer Thee this our Consecration, and remind us of the same all the days of our life. Glory to the Divine Heart of Jesus, our King and our Father. Amen.
ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY FAMILY
Approved by Pope Leo XIII,
20th June 1892.
It is prayed kneeling down before an image of the Holy Family.
If a priest is not present, it is led by the head of the household.
O Most Loving Jesus,
Who by Thy ineffable virtues
and by the example of Thy domestic life
didst consecrate the family
which Thou didst choose on earth;
in Thy clemency look down upon this household
humbly prostrate before Thee
and imploring Thy mercy.
Remember that this family belongs to Thee,
for to Thee we have in a special way
dedicated and devoted ourselves.
Look upon us in Thy loving kindness,
preserve us from every danger,
give us help in the time of need,
and grant us the grace to persevere
to the end in the imitation of Thy Holy Family;
that having revered Thee
and loved Thee faithfully upon earth,
we may bless and praise Thee eternally in heaven.
O Mary, most sweet Mother,
to thy intercession we have recourse,
knowing that thy Divine Son will hear thy prayers.
And do thou,
O glorious Patriarch Saint Joseph,
assist us by thy powerful mediation,
and offer by the hands of Mary our prayers to Jesus.
Amen.

WHAT IS A PLENARY INDULGENCE? HOW IS IT GAINED?
IMPORTANT: “In the current context of the health emergency, the gift of the plenary indulgence is particularly extended to the elderly, the sick, those close to death and all those who for legitimate reasons find it impossible to leave their homes,” the decree states, suggesting such persons can obtain the indulgence by having an intention to fulfill the requirements “as soon as its possible.”
