FRIDAY DEVOTION TO THE PASSION AND DEATH OF OUR LORD.
This crucified image of Christ is popularly known as ” El Cachorro”, a very popular religious icon in Seville, Spain. A legend says that it is so called because the sculptor chose as a model the face of a gypsy, who had that nickname, at the precise moment of expiring after a brawl, and his resemblance was exceptional. However, this legend is probably apocryphal since it has many similarities with the Christ of Mercies of Santa Cruz and the Expiration of Ecija, made in the 17th century by Pedro Roldán, who inspired many authors about what the expiring Christs should be like.
