SUNDAY TRIBUTE TO THE MOST HOLY TRINITY: OH MOST HOLY TRINITY! GOD IMMORTAL BE ADORED!

SUNDAY TRIBUTE TO THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

I was thinking of uploading a Sunday post as a tribute to the Most Holy Trinity and I started to think about a small prayer to write on the meme. I suddenly recalled a childhood memory when my mother used to bring me to the village church together with my siblings. But being the youngest in the family, she made sure that after dressing me up she would tag me along towards the church, which is just a 100 meters from our house, -quite a short distance, but not for a 6 year-old boy-, so as to protect me from the buses and jeepneys plying their routes in our village.

At church, I would accompany my mother queue for communion, insisting her afterwards to give me a bit of what she just received –I didn’t know yet what it was all about–, and I remember that she would bring her finger to her lips and pretend to give me a piece of the Consecrated Host, just to pacify my request, and it did (though I never actually remember receiving anything in my mouth)! J

Anyway, the recessional hymn which was engraved in my mind as a child and which I could still remember the entire congregation singing with joy is the song, “God Father, Praise and Glory.”  It is a 1936 translation by Fr. John Rothensteiner (1860-1936) of the German hymn: “Gott Vater! Sei Gepriesen” referred to sometimes as “O Most Holy Trinity.”

  1. God Father, praise and glory
    Thy children bring to Thee.
    Thy grace and peace to mankind
    Shall now forever be.
    Refrain:
    O most Holy Trinity.
    Undivided Unity;
    Holy God, Mighty God.
    God Immortal, be adored.

    2.

    And Thou, Lord co-eternal,
    God’s sole-begotten Son,
    O Jesus, King anointed,
    Who hast redemption won.
    3.

    O Holy Ghost, Creator,
    Thou gift of God most high;
    Life, love and holy wisdom,
    Our weakness now supply.

I don’t know it is still being sung in the churches nowadays but it would be great  if it could be revived as it is a beautiful hymn of adoration to the Most Holy Trinity.
