SHORT AND BEAUTIFUL PRAYERS FOR THE DEAD

Below you have some beautiful prayers for the dead which can be recited anytime and when one visits the cemetery or graveyard.
SHORT PRAYER FOR A DECEASED PERSON
Holy Father, Eternal and Almighty God, we ask you for (the name of the deceased), whom you called from this world.
Give him happiness, light and peace. May he/she, having passed through death, participate in eternal light with the saints, as you promised Abraham and his descendants.
May his/her soul suffer no more, and deign to resurrect him/her with the saints on the day of resurrection and reward.
Forgive his/her sins and wash away their stains so that he/she may reach immortal life with you in the eternal kingdom.
Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, in the unity of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Eternal rest grant him/her, O Lord, and let your light shine upon him/her (3x)
PRAYER FOR DECEASED PARENTS
Oh God, You commanded us to honor our father and mother.
Have mercy on my father/mother/parents and do not remember his/her/their sins.
May I see him/her/them again in the joy of eternal life.
I ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

PRAYER FOR A DECEASED PARENT, SON, OR DAUGHTER
Lord Heavenly Father, we ask you from the depths of our wounded hearts to grant us a lot of strength and faith to resist the great pain left by the departure of (say the name of the deceased) who comes to your call in the kingdom of heaven, waiting to be received by your kind hand.
All your times are precise. We still do not understand your plan but if you consider that (name of deceased) already fulfilled his/her mission here in life and You needed his/her presence by your side, we are not the one to prevent it and we lovingly conform to your Will.
But sadness is inevitable before these things. We know that time heals everything with the help of our faith in you, but still there are scars that will make us remember him/her with much love.
Forgive his/her failures. Purify his/her soul and guide him/her to live with You eternally in the kingdom of heaven.

PRAYER FOR THE DEATH OF A LOVED ONE
Oh Jesus, the only consolation in the eternal hours of pain, the only consolation in the immense emptiness which death causes among the grieving loved ones!
You, Lord, whom the heavens, the earth and the men saw crying in sad days;
You, Lord, who have wept at the impulse of the most tender affection over the grave of a favorite friend;
You, oh Jesus, who pitied the mourning of a distressed home and hearts which cry without consolation;
You, loving Father, also have compassion on our tears.
Look at our tears, Lord, as the blood of the aching soul, for the loss of the one who was a very dear relative, a faithful friend, a fervent Christian.
Look at them, Lord, as a heartfelt tribute that we offer you for his/her soul, so that you may purify him/her in your most Precious Blood and take him/her to heaven as soon as possible, if he/she still does not enjoy you there.
Look at them, Lord, so that you give us strength, patience, and loving conformity with your divine will in this tremendous test that tortures the soul!
Look at them, oh sweet, oh most loving Jesus! And grant so that we, who have lived here on earth united with the very strong bonds of affection, and now mourn the momentary absence of our loved one, may meet him/her again with You in Heaven, to live eternally united in your Heart. Amen.
Prayers at Graveside
Lord Jesus Christ,
by your own three days in the tomb,
you hallowed the graves of all who believe in you
and so made the grave a sign of hope
that promises resurrection
even as it claims our mortal bodies.
Grant that our brother/sister, N., may sleep here in peace
until you awaken him/her to glory,
for you are the resurrection and the life.
Then he/she will see you face to face
and in your light will see light
and know the splendor of God,
for you live and reign forever and ever.
R/. Amen.
O God,
by whose mercy the faithful departed find rest,
send your holy Angel to watch over this grave.
Through Christ our Lord.
