MAN UP! TAME YOUR TEMPER.
CONQUER YOUR LAZINESS. STOP COMPLAINING.
Uncontrolled anger, exasperating laziness, non-stop finger-pointing, frequent irritable moaning…some characteristics of a weak-willed person, slave of one’s passions and thereby resulting not only to childishness, immature and irresponsible personality but graver evils at that: vengeance, violence, egotism, lust, impurity, pride, desperation…
The remedy, nevertheless, is at the hand. We must MAN OURSELVES UP! We must start acquiring the virtues of TEMPERANCE AND FORTITUDE by struggling daily against the “OLD MAN” in ourselves, with DETERMINATION and above all, with GOD’S GRACE, asking God for help, and putting our part, in order to live the NEW LIFE IN CHRIST, THE “NEW MAN”!
As they say in Spanish: “Querer es poder”, that is, to want (or to desire) is strength (or power in itself). We can change ourselves only if we really want to change for when we really want to change we shall put the necessary means within our reach: prayer, sacraments and daily interior struggle to say “NO”, out of love for God, to the DISORDERED PASSIONS which pull us down and IMPEDE us to soar to the heights of intimate union with God in the midst of our ordinary life.
And so the VERY USEFUL AND PRACTICAL REMINDER from Pope Francis for our daily struggle:
“eliminate the rancour that leads us to vengeance, and the laziness that leads us to existential euthanasia, the finger-pointing that leads to arrogance, and the continual complaining that leads us to desperation. I know that sometimes, in order to keep a job, one speaks ill of someone, in order to defend oneself. I understand these situations, but that is the wrong road. In the end we will all be destroyed by ourselves, not this, it is of no use. Instead, ask the Lord for the wisdom to know how to bite one’s tongue at times, in order not to say hurtful words, which afterwards leave bitterness in the mouth;”
