Reflection homily on the 2nd Sunday After Christmas:
GOD IS NEAR TO US, GOD IS WITH US!
Dear friends, today’s liturgy on the 2nd Sunday after Christmas wishes to remind and encourage us of a very important idea: GOD IS NEAR TO US! HE IS WITH US!
He is not a God who is indifferent with the plight of men, far from them but rather a loving, merciful and approachable God who did not hesitate to be one like us, assuming our human nature in order to show us how to live our humanity, imbuing it with His Divinity. God does not save us from afar, but accompanies us in our journey towards eternal life.
The 3 readings converge on this most important proclamation: GOD-IS-WITH-US who lovingly calls us towards Himself to love Him, imitate His Only-Begotten Son, thus walking with Him along the path of divine filiation, till we reach its plenitude: holiness which is the full identification with Our Lord Jesus Christ.
- Divine Wisdom inhabited the world in the midst of His people and invites one and all to come and approach Him: ““From the mouth of the Most High I came forth, and mistlike covered the earth. In the highest heavens did I dwell, my throne on a pillar of cloud…Come to me, all you that yearn for me, and be filled with my fruits (cf. Eccl 24:1–4, 8–12).”
- Jesus, the Divine Wisdom, “the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth (cf. Jn 1:1–18 & Responsorial Psalm).”
- God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, has chosen us in His son before the foundation of the world “to be holy and without blemish before him. In love he destined us for adoption to himself through Jesus Christ, in accord with the favor of his will, for the praise of the glory of his grace that he granted us in the beloved (cf. Eph 1:3–6, 15–18).”
Let us thank, bless, adore, and praise the Most Blessed Trinity, for His Infinite Love manifested in many different ways, in particular, with His closeness and union with us, not only with His Incarnation but also in His Real Presence in the Holy Eucharist whom we can truly receive in our soul in grace and thus be united with Him.
Love seeks union with the beloved and seeks to please Him as well.
We could put this into practice in our daily life, by behaving as real children of God, seeking holiness with the help of His grace in the little things of each day through our struggle to identify ourselves with Our Lord Jesus Christ and imitate Him in our thoughts, words, desires, feelings and actions: in our life!
Almighty ever-living, God, splendor of faithful souls, graciously be pleased to fill the world with your glory and show yourself to all peoples by the radiance of your light (Opening prayer of the Mass).
